Shopping in San Francisco
San Francisco, California offers one a variety of shopping experiences. An interesting place to visit is Japan town in San Francisco, located near the area of Webster Street. The shops in this area offer a wide array of merchandise. One can find arts and antiques, apparel and accessories, books, movies, video, flowers, jewelry and even visit the Japanese Markets and pastry shops.
Many shops can be found along the Market Street area. This is where one can experience the Westfield San Francisco Centre with its Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and over 170 boutiques. The Centre also has numerous restaurants, including those with award-winning cuisine, casual luncheons, or intimate dinners. Also located in this area is the specialty store chain Metro Park, which offers a wide variety of sophisticated fashion, art, and music to young adults. Entertainment is oftentimes offered on the weekends with DJ performances and fashion shows.
Located along 4th Street is the state-of-the-art Metreon Shopping Center. Consisting of 4 levels, it offers specialty stores, restaurants, and entertainment along with the AMC Theatre with IMAX.
Going in a northern direction, Ghirardelli Square is located on North Point Street, on the west side of Fisherman’s Wharf. Many unique shops, such as the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop, and restaurants are offered here as well as annual events such as the Wine Festival, Chocolate Festival, and Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Another fun and interesting place to shop is Pier 39, located only two blocks east of Fisherman’s Wharf, on San Francisco’s historic waterfront. It consists of 2 levels and offers over 100 specialty shops, full-service restaurants, and spectacular Bay views. When in the area, one should also check out The Cannery, at Del Monte Square, also located near the end of Fisherman’s Wharf. Modeled after old European piazzas, the area offers a wide array of shops, restaurants, galleries, and entertainment.
